are living in a world in which mental stress and allied illnesses
are on the rise. To provide ideal mental health care, a super specialty
institution has been started at Vengola near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam
District, Kerala. It is known as Ideal Mind Care (IMC). Here, the
thrust is to cure mental diseases by applying Psychological methods
and Yoga. Various psychological tests are applied (Psycho-diagnostic
evaluation) to diagnose difficult cases and medicines are given only
in essential cases.
Dr. Shaji Cherian
who took his post-graduate degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology
from the Prestigious Central Institute of Psychiatry and with experience
of more than two decades is at the helm. Dr. Geko K. George, a post-graduate
in Psychiatry from the reputed Christian Medical College, Velloore,
possessing 25 years’ practical experience in treatment, is
the Director of Psychiatry.
The learning disability and related problems of
children are attended by Mrs. Simsy Shaji (B.Sc. B.Ed., Dip.LD)
with 12 years experience in the field, she scientifically wipes
out the tears of children and of their parents.
Training in Yoga, conducive to personality development
and mental health, is also given in IMC under the guidance of Dr.
Teena Paul, a graduate from SDM College, Mangalore, affiliated to
Rajive Gandhi University. Dr. Mani Abraham, the RMO’s service
is available throughout the day. Four psychiatric social workers
devote their time both with the inpatients and the outpatients to
bring them back to normal life by training them to do the work suited
to them. Each group of five patients gets the care of a psychiatric
qualified nurse. Bystanders are not allowed to stay with the inpatients
who are well-looked after by the Care Takers, which is a rare speciality.
